PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH
Indigenous Storywork

This presentation demonstrates how three educators helped teachers integrate the Surrey Schools Opening the Basket Sto:lo Sitel curriculum in grades 1-4. Photos, inquiry questions, and the math connections made are included.

Grades one and two examined the salmon harvest where they measured their fish. Grades three and four looked at measuring and mapping while examining how fractions played a role in their math stories. Indigenous Storywork acted as a guide for all learning throughout this activity.

You can access their website here for more information, lessons, printable story maps, and exploration of Stó:lō Sitel stories.
