Wendy, Jordan, and Kristin utilized What is the Most Beautiful Thing you Know About Horses? by Richard Van Camp and George Littlechild to pilot a Numeracy Pen-Pal Project connecting Grade 4-5 students in Golden, BC, with Grade 5-6 students in Churchill Manitoba. The diverse landscapes of these communities sparked rich mathematical conversations about location, land, and inhabitants. Provided is a teacher example called “What is the Most Beautiful Thing about Cedar Trees”, a student handout called “What’s the Most Mathy Thing About…” and a Rubric for marking.
