Place-Based Learning, Indigenous Storywork

This project, spearheaded by Jess Kyle, investigated the intersection of Indigenous Storywork and place-based math learning. By incorporating Indigenous territory story mats and traditional tales like the Sto:lo Sitel collection, The Legend of the White Rock, and Wake Up, Black Bear, these uncover the rich mathematical potential within children’s curiosity about their surroundings. Teacher-guided inquiry, rooted in student questions, fostered deep and holistic mathematical explorations connected to place and personal experiences.
